Contact: Frank Lennon Senator McCain Learns First-hand about the Saratoga Museum Project
On January 18 Presidential candidate and Navy veteran Senator John McCain (R, AZ) held one of his "town meetings" in East Greenwich, RI, birthplace of the American Navy. In the photo above, Frank Lennon, President of the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation, Inc. welcomes the Senator to the historic Varnum Armory. These photos were taken in front of authentic World War II Navy recruiting posters on display at the Armory. Although the conversation was brief, Senator McCain expressed his support for our efforts, and thanked both Mr. Lennon and Mr. Foley for their past service to their country.
![]() In this photo Senator John McCain thanks retired LCDR Frank Foley (R) of North Kingstown, RI for his World War II service aboard USS Saratoga [CV-3]. LCDR Foley served aboard Sara from 1934 to 1938, and from 1943 to 1945. He was aboard when carrier aviation came of age, and he survived the furious kamikaze attack off Iwo Jima. Both photographs courtesy of East Greenwich Photo and Studio.
