Navy Application Deadline

As you know, USS Saratoga Museum Foundation, Inc. submitted its application for donation of Saratoga to NAVSEA on October 17, 2000. That action triggered a statute-mandated notice in the Federal Register, giving all other interested applicants six months in which to submit a competing application. That window closed on April 17.

We had hoped to have definitive word by now about the closing of the application window, but that hasn't happened. The NAVSEA Ship Donation office moved Easter weekend from Virginia to the Washington Navy Yard. I wasn't even able to get through to Gloria Carvalho (program officer) until April 19.

To the best of her knowledge there has been no other activity. She hasn't heard a whisper of another applicant. However, they can't give us a definite until the last of their mail gets forwarded. Stay tuned!
