RI Governor Hosts "Big Picnic" to
Re-launch Saratoga Fundraising Effort
On 8 June, 2003, Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri and his wife Susan opened their summer home in Saunderstown to invited guests and special visitors. The occasion was the kick-off of a renewed fundraising effort by the Saratoga Museum Foundation - reinvigorating the process that had begun nearly half a decade earlier by Frank Lennon and the Saratoga Museum Foundation. This gracious and generous offer by the Governor to host this event was a dramatic and very public gesture to the guests in attendance and those elsewhere. It made clear Governor Carcieri's sentiments with regards to the impact to the State of Rhode Island in having the ex-USS SARATOGA available as an asset to state economic health and tourism.
