The terrorist attacks that began on September 11, 2001 have had a major impact on all of us, including the Saratoga Project. We are still evaluating those consequences, but our initial conclusion is that the wave of patriotism sweeping our nation today will in the long run make our project stronger. In the short term, however, fund raising will be more difficult. To read Foundation President Frank Lennon's open letter on this subject, select this link.

On September 11, 2001, Chic Burlingame, captain of American Airlines Flight 77 that was en route from Dulles International Airport near Washington to Los Angeles, was killed when his airplane was deliberately crashed by terrorists into the southwest face of the Pentagon E ring. In Memoriam: Captain Victor J. Saracini

Another Saratoga pilot was brutally murdered by the terrorist attack on September 11. Victor Saracini was the Captain of United Airlines Flight 175, a Boeing 767 bound from Boston to Los Angeles. This plane was crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center shortly after 9 a.m. ET. We are working with the Saracini family to assemble a memorial web page - watch this space for further developments. |
